As of December 2009 Carlsen has since become the world’s no.1 ranking player. His performance at the September-October 2009 Nanjing Pearl Spring tournament was described as one of the greatest in history, and lifted him to an astonishing Elo rating of 2801. In 2004 The Washington Post dubbed him the “Mozart of chess”.

The latest victory, December 2009, in London has propelled him to the very top of the FIDE rating list, with an astonishing rating of 2810!
